Research & Development

Period of professional development supported by a grant awarded from Arts Council England.
Various locations: 20 June 2013 - 31 March 2014.

I produced three projects - in Newtown, Wembley and Birmingham - using different forms of public engagement in their development and creation. I also undertook mentoring from three arts professionals to help guide and develop my professional practice. The progress and outcomes of the various projects and fields of enquiry were documented on this blog.

Viaduct Walk

Yesterday’s Viaduct launch and walk was excellent. A really good turnout with lots of interested and interesting people.

The weather behaved for the walk, allowing everyone to get a good look with fresh eyes at the Viaduct, and spend time talking and discussing the idiosyncrasies of the structure.

On our return some thoughts, ideas and comments were pinned up on the wall.

And the publication arrived from the printers this morning.

Everything is set for tomorrow’s launch.

A3 Sketchbook Walls

A sneak peak at A3 Project Space after I scrawled all over the walls.

The printouts were from Graham Laucht, who has amassed an archive of historical material about the Viaduct. The drawings show the original designs with many notes and unrealised features.

I may have to return to add some more to the walls. Graham had so much information it almost derailed me!

Viaduct A3 Setup

Tomorrow I’m going to set up a display for Viaduct at A3 Project Space in Digbeth. This display will provide a backdrop for the launch of the Viaduct publication on 15 March - offering a sneak peak at some of the content, and helping to provide some more as it will also allow visitors to leave responses and feedback about the Viaduct.

Walking The Viaduct Pt3

Yesterday I did the third and final walks for Viaduct.

First I met with architect and urban designer Joe Holyoak. Afterwards I walked the route with artist Cathy Wade. Fortunately the rain held off for these two walks but for the third, with Secretary of Digbeth Residents Association Pamela Pinski, the heavens opened. We conducted our interview indoors.

Now I have to finish transcribing all of these conversations and shape them into content for the newspaper.
