Alternate Realties

Hand-bound book
1998

In essence this book is a gallery catalogue, it serves as a record of the 3rd year mid-year show. Its difference to other catalogues lies in its creation. During the private view for the show Rich dressed as a gallery guide and took a group around the exhibition making up meanings for the works as he went along. Afterwards he gave each person some paper and a pencil and asked them to draw their favourite work of the exhibition. These drawings were then collected and used as the illustrations for the catalogue, accompanied by a text written by the gallery guide describing a very different show.

Evidence

’Rich was able to turn a potentially provocative and difficult project into a successful and challenging piece that delighted, enthused and provoked audiences visiting the gallery space.’

I’ve spent four days out of the last two weeks running a workshop at Oakwood School in St Albans. Here’s the result.
