He Builds With One Hand And Pulls Down With The Other
Installation of photographs
Commissioned by AirSpace for Stocktake, Stoke-on-Trent
24 February - 23 March 2012
The image is of the statue of Josiah Wedgwood that stands in Winton Square, Stoke-on-Trent (and a view that few have seen - taken from the vantage point of Platform 4). It is divided up in to 30 A4 sheets to be hung by the gallery in the correct order, but in any fashion they wish. The title is lifted from a quote by Francis Bacon.
The work was Rich's response to his experiences in Stoke-on-Trent over the past six years. He has seen it change as old buildings are demolished and new ones are built. He has heard people talk about Wedgwood and his legacy - how some revere him as an innovator and champion, and others feel that he did irreparable damage to the fabric of the city.

I’ve spent four days out of the last two weeks running a workshop at Oakwood School in St Albans. Here’s the result.
