escapecoming soon to stoke-on-trent: new work - escape.
part of conjunction 08, organised by airspace gallery.

installation using found materials, stoke-on-trent.
2008
commissioned by airspace, stoke-on-trent.
7 - 30 november 2008.
escape is a response to the proposed building of europe's largest tesco.
i intend to build a giant tesco sign from materials found on the building site. the sign will be sited in a disused shop-space nearby - it will appear to have burst through the floor and wall, and be so big that only the letters 'ESC' from the middle of the word will be visible.

residency at CUBE, manchester.
2008
the residency ran from 1st august to 6th september 2008.
i responded to the architecture of the residency space, and of the surrounding area of manchester city centre. work was constructed mainly from materials found in and around CUBE.
my focus was initially on how visitors and staff (and i) used the space. the space is a thoroughfare, which is something i had to bear in mind whilst designing and building the work. i produced architectural-seeming alterations that affected how people interacted with the space. these alterations were intended to almost appear as intentional parts of the original building design with only their unusual positioning, material and/or angle betraying their purpose.
i regularly documented all aspects of the residency online in a weblog through photographs, drawing and writing.
