Working From Home

Diary / Posted by Rich

For the past two weeks I have been helping artist Julie McCalden install her work ‘Working Form Home’ at the Museum of Bath at Work.

‘Engaging with the life of an early 20th century woman, Working from home camouflages signs of industrious activity within a domestic setting.
Embedding the tools and products of work within a turn-of-the-century dwelling, the work brings into focus everyday living and precarious labour through a historical lens.’

To Julie’s design I constructed a timber and board ‘room’ with three walls, like those found in the museum. The entire room and all of its contents were painstakingly covered with the same damask pattern.

The exhibition continues until 31 August.
