Hand In Hand
Sculpture using birch ply, cork and mural
Commissioned by Elmfield School for Deaf Children
2025
Rich worked with Artistic Director Cathy Mager to design, fabricate and install the sculpture celebrating British Sign Language and the education of deaf children in the UK.
The trees, standing in the shared reception of Elmfield School for Deaf Children and Upper Horfield Community School, are etched with sign language and the walls are painted with silhouettes all created in workshops with pupils, while cork-clad leaves soften the acoustics of the space.
Created by Artistic Director Cathy Mager with lead fabricator Rich White. Support from CNC specialist Ian Penny at Bristol Old Vic Scenic Workshop. Laser cutting from Stephen Ryan. Mural painting by Sonia Burniston and Theo Cuff.
Supported by Bristol Council & Arts Council England
