This weekend I attended a secret festival, and made a sculpture for it. The sculpture was to mark the final night of the tenth year of the festival. Before the last band played (the excellent Kassassin Street, performing acoustically for the first time) Effigy was lit and we watched as it burnt down.

I spent two more days at University Hospital North Staffordshire this week, researching materials and techniques the hospital uses, and talking to the people that work in the hidden but no-less important departments.
The box contains Dr Josep Sulé-Suso’s excellent 3D radiotherapy demonstration machine. It can show a patient exactly what will happen to them in full 3D using their own CT scan to produce imagery. More info here.
I also got my hand cast in polyester casting tape in the fracture clinic.

I’ve spent the last few weeks doing a lot of work wearing my other hat as gallery technician for Furtherfield.
We’re launching our first touring exhibition this week - Digital Zoo, Life From The World Wild Web - featuring works selected from our recent exhibition schedule in Finsbury Park. The image above is of Animacules by Genetic Moo. The tour sees the works sited in shopping centres around the UK. More info here.
My role in all of this consisted of designing and building a series of structures, which can be dismantled and reassembled in each venue, to house the works. As the tour is being shown in shopping centres we have to install at night whilst the centres are closed. It is very strange being in an empty shopping centre at 5am.
Posted by RichAfter a rather hectic period I have finally relocated to Bristol - so it’s back on with work, getting exhibitions and continuing my research and development projects.
I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to Bristol’s lively art scene; I’ve already been to make sushi at Spike Island and been to a few exhibition openings.
I’ll will now be recommencing my research and development projects - You Are Here in Birmingham will begin it’s next phase soon, and the replacement third project will hopefully be announced soon.

This award will enable me to research and produce three new works using various forms of public engagement over the next five months, along with mentoring from three respected arts practioners to help me develop my practice and create a more sustainable career.

Posted by RichFriday saw the culmination of the London 2012 Olympic Recycling Project - a series of workshops in five schools in St Albans. I was working at Oakwood School with Poplar Class - a lively bunch of year 4s - who created the Litter-cruncher Chimeracycle.
On the day all five schools congregated at Fleetville school to present their work and Poplar did me proud. First they talked about the project and how we developed the work. Then they told the story that we wrote together, complete with the illustrations they had drawn.
The children read beautifully, their interpretation of the work was clear and straightforward, and they managed to convey their excitement and enthusiasm for the project. Plus their drawings looked fantastic projected four metres wide on the screen.
I would once again like to say thank you to Miss Tapster and Chris Blanch, and most of all to Poplar Class. I think we all had a fantastic time and we managed to produce something really great.
