Research & Development

Period of professional development supported by a grant awarded from Arts Council England.
Various locations: 20 June 2013 - 31 March 2014.

I produced three projects - in Newtown, Wembley and Birmingham - using different forms of public engagement in their development and creation. I also undertook mentoring from three arts professionals to help guide and develop my professional practice. The progress and outcomes of the various projects and fields of enquiry were documented on this blog.

Be Our Guest is Open

Be Our Guest opened on Saturday, accompanied by glorious weather for the barbecue and workshops.

Oriel Davies staff put in a tremendous amount of work to get everything ready on time - with many working to the small hours and some not going home at all. The result, however, was worth it, resulting in a completely transformed gallery space populated by works large and small, overt and covert, giving visitors a really exciting, intriguing and immersive experience.

One of my favourite things to do was watch the CCTV screen in the (wonderfully grotty and passive-aggressive) reception area (by Tiff Oben and Helene Roberts).

From here you could spy on gallery visitors as they explored the works and witness their surprise on discovering some of the more unseemly aspects of the show.

It was also really nice to see Moyra and Jim (from Yesterdays B&B) and the other local B&B owners enjoying the show. Many of the works were inspired by their businesses.

The exhibition is on until 4 September. More info: Oriel Davies
